WATERMELON: IMPORTANCE AND WHY YOU SHOULD NOT OVERLOOK IT.

Water melon is not just a fruit, its a vegetable that supplies much needed amount of vitamins and antioxidants with a very low amount of calories, has no side effects on either children or adults. It has so much liquid in it that helps in making sure that dehydration would not be an issue. It can be enjoyed whether refrigerated or not, the taste does not change in either case, just the feel of chilled and not chilled. Continuous intake of water melon reduces the risk of obesity considerably and ensures that energy is supplied all round the body. Water melon is a member in the botanical family of Cucurbitaceae.



Health risks Watermelon can prevent
1. Indigestion: The water content coupled with important fibers of water melon makes sure that food is broken down into smaller particles thereby preventing constipation and improves a healthy digestive tract.

2. Hypertension: As water is the main substance found in watermelon just as the name says, water makes movement of blood and food particles around the body easier and smoother, blood flow in and out of the heart is facilitated greatly by the presence of water. Watermelon is rich in lycopene and lycopene helps protect against heart disease


3. Inflammation: Another content of watermelon is Choline which is a very important nutrient that helps in sleeping freely, learning fast and memory maintenance. It also does a good job in absorption of fats and reduction of chronic inflammation.

4. Cancer: Vitamin C is known to be a strong antioxidant, so the great amount of Vitamin C  and lycopene present in water melon helps enormously in combating free radicals that causes cancer. The most type of cancer that watermelon intake can prevent is prostate cancer.

5. Dehydration: Watermelon is made up of more than 90% water, so dehydration will hardly be a health challenge to a person that regularly takes watermelon.
